Home African Caribbean No appeal in sight for jailed Buju Banton

Caribbean news. Mark Myrie, universally known as Buju Banton, currently in the lock up for 10 years spanning from late 2009. In said year, Buju was charged with conspiracy to distribute five or more kilogrammes of cocaine. Last August, The US Appeals Court approved a request by Banton’s laywers to give verbal arguments concerning his efforts to secure a new trial.

However, it was recently dismissed on the grounds that the court does not have the jurisdiction to hear the appeal. Throughout his tenure in a prison in Florida, Buju Banton has maintained his innocence plea; adamant that he was trapped and unjustifiably targeted into a drug deal by a paid informant.

Buju Banton lawyers, headed by Charles Ogletree, stated that they are taking their case to the US Full Court. If all fails, Buju Banton will serve 5 more years, to be released in 2019.
