ROSEAU, Dominica. After dominating social media views for the past two-plus weeks, the winner of the 2018, Dominica Film Challenge was announced Wednesday 29 August at a special prize-giving ceremony at the Prevost Cinemall in Roseau. Team Number 3, comprising of Sheldon Casimir and Norris Francois Jr. was named the winners of the competition. The second place winner went to Team Number 6 which comprised of Kreig Harris and Ericson Joseph. Derek Galon was awarded the Social Media Award for having the video with the most views and likes on social media.

The announcement of the winners followed a well synchronized roll-out of the six Film Challenge videos which combined for well over half a million views on social media network Facebook.

At the closing ceremony, the teams were allowed to introduce then screen the videos that they each spent 5 weeks shooting and editing. Each video was based around a different theme such as; Hiking, Water-based Adventures, Cuisine, Soft Adventures and more.

Director of Tourism Mr. Colin Piper and Minister for Tourism and Culture Honorable Robert Tonge both made brief remarks at the ceremony. They complimented the teams on their great talent and high level of production and execution.

The videos and teams which competed in the 2018 Film Challenge are:
‘Nature Island Rejuvenation’ by Armani Augustine/Garvin Leblanc
‘Hiking an Island Reborn’ by Derek Galon/Margaret Gajek
‘Dominica, A Different Adventure’ by Sheldon Casimir/Norris Francois Jr.
‘You and me’ by Marica Honeychurch/Arnaud Chabert
‘Waitukubuli a Love Letter’ by Tridel Edwin/Elias Dupuis
‘Dominica – From Past to Promise’ by Kreig Harris/Ericson Joseph
