Home African Caribbean Jamaican Mavado in search of bajan family

Caribbean news. Barbados is like international dancehall artist Mavado’s second home. And he is not shy about saying so. During his latest performance in Barbados at Reggae On The Beach on Sunday, Mavado said his grandparents were from the island, and that he always felt so much love when he came here.

Mavado told Bajan Vibes after the performance, he still had hopes of locating his family here who he believed hailed from St Philip. “Barbados was the first Caribbean island I came to when I first came on the scene; so I will always have a special love for Barbados. Whenever I come here, I always feel like family orientation; so its just love . . . ,” the Gully God said.

He also expressed a special thank you to the fans in Barbados who he said had shown him love from day one. “The last time I was here it was in 2013; so its nice to be here, and the fans them love it,” he said.

On his performance, Mavado said it was refreshing to be back on a Bajan stage. “The performance tonight was great. I was out there for over an hour and a half, so I guess the people got what they wanted,” he said.

He offered some advice to the young up-and-coming artistes. “Never give up. To be inspired by Gully God, it’s a good thing because I’m from nothing to something. So I would tell all those youths to just keep on trying. Keep on pushing. Never give up.”

And he too is taking his own advice, going full speed ahead with his own career. “The sky is the limit for me. I’m putting out my new album this year, and this will be my third album . . . . To me the most important thing about being an entertainer is to  keep on finding hit songs, whether it’s collaboration or if it’s by yourself,” he said. Article courtesy http://www.barbadostoday.bb/
