Words such as “abandoned” and “stranded” were used by Nigeria media outlets last week to describe the situation of the students who arrived in Trinidad last September and in Barbados last December, to undergo vocational studies as part of the Youth Empowerment Programme of oil-rich Delta State.
The Nigeria Times reported last Thursday that commissioner for basic and secondary education, Barr Chiedu Ebie, flanked by two other commissioners Fidelis Tilije and Chief James Augoye, said that based on the “suffering and emotional torture” the students had undergone, the state’s government had agreed that since they were almost stranded they should be brought home.
