Nothing Special; It’s who we are: Part 5 – Christmas just for ME!

So it’s getting a bit chilly in the Tropics and because we’re so used to the warmth, everybody wants a live blanket to keep them ‘warm’. Lol, every Christmas I hear people saying they want a man or woman for the holidays. Who ever heard the story ‘be careful what you wish for cause you just might get it?’ The jolly season can really get to our heads so be careful of the people you invite into your bed.

For all of us who can’t manage the consequences of impulsive decisions, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with spending the Christmas alone. Christmas is all about love, giving, sharing and caring, who said you have to be in a relationship to demonstrate the true meaning of Christmas? You can be single and have the warmest Christmas ever if you do things that will make you happy.

Here I’ve compiled a Single Girl’s to do list for Christmas. Take a look at my top 5 things that singletons can do this Christmas:

  • Go shopping for yourself – Since you won’t have that ‘significant other’ to give you that special gif’, go and get it yourself. Treat yourself and buy something you always wanted, the perfect gift for you. You don’t have to worry about anyone else not getting you what you want when you’re getting it yourself. I got myself a booty the other day and every time I looked at it, I smiled as it’s the right colour, right size, right design and I got it for me.
  • Cook for yourself/ treat yourself to a delicious meal – Cooking can be such a joy for some. You just might be the one who’s enjoying it. It’s exciting when you go to the store and pick out what you want to have for dinner. The feeling gets greater when it’s a success. To enjoy it more, invite friends over and have them take part in your delicious achievement. Go ahead and put some music on, unwind and have fun. If you need tips on how to cook what, the internet will always offer great options.

    Having fun alone at Christmas

  • Do something new – Do something you’ve never done before that you always wanted to do like colour your hair, go on a road trip, have a crazy house party or even bungee jumping. Do something that will make you revel in the moment and feel even more alive.
  • Hang with family/friends – Many of us are busy all year and this is the only time you might have when you can visit others and spend some quality time with them. No boyfriend/girlfriend to attend to for Christmas, go to your parents, plan a day out with your love ones and be merry with them.
  • Do something you love before you were in a relationship/ find a new hobby- Before we were in relationships, we were all single and have things that we loved doing in our own time, revisit those things. If it’s something you love, probably you still have something for it. If not, find something new to do that you would enjoy. There are so many things that one can do, find one that suits you.

Do remember that you have to be happy with yourself before you can be happy with anyone else. You got to love yourself before you love another. You got to have fun with yourself before you can have fun with others. Being single is not a criminal penalty. Look at it as an opportunity to spend time with you and all that you’ve missed out on. That genuine, true and loving girl/guy will come along in the process of you loving and enjoying you.
