What is Jamaica?
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean. It is 234km in length and 80km in width amounting to 11000 square kilometers (4300sq miles). Jamaica hosts the seventh largest natural harbour in the world, Kingston harbour. Jamaica is home to the blue mountain and the world famous Blue Mountain Coffee. It’s the birthplace of the Rastafarian religion, reggae music and the legendary Bob Marley and the indigenous doctor bird. It is also the home of the late Louise Bennett-Coverly, Lenard P. Howell and Marcus Garvey. The country has produced many world class sprinters such as Asafa Powell, Herb Mckenley and Shelly-Ann Frazer and the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt. Jamaica is the location of the first James Bond movie. Islanders and tourists love to feast in the country’s world famous jerk chicken, ackee and codfish, run dung and rum. The island is the home of the sunshine girls and the reggae boys, and the world famous Bob Sled team, with tourist attractions such as Dunn’s River Fall, YS falls, the Blue Lagoon, Treasure Beach, Alligator Pond and Port Royal.
