“Dallah, Ambroise took part in athletics in the 70’s when we were still a colony. Athletics were extremely undeveloped as a sport in the day and imagine SMC, a high school, had the only established athletic program on the entire island.
Ambroise was fortunate to be a police officer at the time to have utlized the resources available to that institution. The negative attitude we see to our sports folks is what we inherited as a colony. In 79, when we became independent, the dominant issue of the following era revolved around the the egoistic ambitions of politicians. People were polarized. All our leaders, from those in education to sports to those of local communities focus were diverted. Absolutely no time was devoted to nation building. Had our leaders come together and realized our weakness at the time and devised remedies for us Lucians, our attitudes would have been way better today. All what they focused on was to get a job and buy a piece of land and build a house. But that’s not what a civilization is built on! A special program had to be devised to inculcate the values of a civility and respect which is important in a nation.
